LBX Elysion

I am beginning to like these Little Battlers aka  LBX. Well, initially I find them pretty kiddish looking and they somehow reminds me of Pokemon and Digimon. But I had the chance to build one several months ago and realized there kits are pretty fun to build. And since you can interchange the limbs and torsos, there is room for lots of variations.

Here is my second LBX todate, LBX Elysion...

  1. Nice metallic finishes. Can't wait for the rest!

Can you tell me how many coats you do for priming, then black, then silver?

  2. Yup, prime enough to cover the surface. For black, I spray several coat to get the glossy look.

  4. Hello! My name is Ching and I'm very very very new to the model kit hobby. I'm a huge fan of the show and I do collect LBXs, but I want to mod them so they at least resemble the beautiful box art ^^;

I've read around the gunpla forums on basic how-tos, but I don't know if they can be applied to LBXs? Since LBXs don't have to be modded like gunplas.

I've only found a few people who really mod their LBXs, and I have to say I really really love your metallic finishes for Elysion and Lucifer.

If it's not too much trouble, can you share your process? Like do you sand before priming? How do you achieve the metallic sheen?

    Thank you very much!

  5. Hello Ching,

I went through your blog (nice blog by the way) and realized that you do not use airbrush to paint your LBXs.

Well, for metallic surfaces, I usually sand down with a 600 grit sandpaper followed by a 1000 or 1200 grit sandpaper to get the smooth surface. After that, I prime all parts to check for blemishes and scratches.

Once that is complete, I airbrush a coat of gloss black. Make sure that no dirt or any particle settles on the parts.

After the black paint dries, I apply the metallic colour of my choice. Usually I use silver as the base paint and clear colours to achieve the tone I want i.e clear purple for a purplish metal, clear red for a metallic finish.

I hope the above helps. Do let me know if you have further questions.

    Best Regards,

    Toymaker

  6. Uwa, thank you very much! :)

I'm not sure I'm ready for an airbrush yet. It's still a bit beyond my budget ^^; I think I'll try spray cans first (and possibly hand painting?)

You sand LBXs with 600 grit sandpaper? Won't it lose detail?

Do you still add some sort of topcoat? And can I ask what do you use to smooth seamlines (like on Elysion's headgear)?

    Big big thanks again!

  7. Well, I 'm pretty careful so the details are ok. TO get rid of the seam line you need to use cement to glue the parts together. Let it cure for a few hours, sand down and paint over it. That's about it :)

  9. Woaw, this is an absolute gorgeous result.

I'm waiting for my 1st command of LBX this days, can't wait to build of this beauty.

May i ask you what kind of color trademark did you use for you color schemes?(Tamiya? and color model: Chrome, Candy?)

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Gaia paints.

Start with a black base. Follow by silver.

Then it's all clear blue, clear purple. Gold for the head crest.
