Sazabi Version Ka

Phew, I finally finish something before the end of 2014. It has been a rather slow year for me. Been juggling between projects and almost got burnout. One thing I learnt from that episode is that never bite more than you can chew. When you have too many things on your table, you tend to get distracted. And in the end, nothing gets done. 

Anyway, we leave that for another day, back to the Sazabi Ver ka I completed. The MG Sazabi ver Ka is probably the best MG out there. Because you don't have to modify it. Just an OOB build with a nice colour scheme will do. This is how good it is.

Malaysia GBWC 2014

Every year, I will make a trip to Malaysia just to see the entries at GBWC since we are so close. This year is no exception. The 4 hours drive there was surprisingly therapeutic. But definitely not the traffic in Kuala Lumpur lol.

Alpha Seraphim - Thailand GBWC 2014 entry by Anupong Channarong [nuNUnu]

Well, what can I say about this fellow? His builds never ceased to amaze me. And that includes his latest creation, the 1/144 scale Alpha Seraphim. It came in Third in the open category at Thailand GBWC. Although this is 1/144 scale, it is probably the height of the Psycho Gundam but with even more bulk. 

A lot of kitbashed parts and additions to this massive kit. And you know what's the best part? It is fully transformable! To add and alter so much and still make it transformable is really a remarkable achievement. Hat's off to him.

The Human Size - Thailand GBWC 2014 entry by Gunpla Yatoorman

Thailand GBWC 2014 may have ended, but I am still very much in awe of some of the outstanding entries I seen there (online). One such entry is "The Human Size" by Gunpla Yatoorman. An interesting entry, it stands out among the other Gundam themed entries there. And it actually inspired me to write this post. 

And that is where the problem lies. In a Gundam orientated competition, can an entry like this catch the attention of the Judges? Sad to say, given the superior modifications and interesting concept, it was probably "overlooked". And that to me, is a big shame. This entry deserves a better standing. Well, I can't do anything about it but I can certainly blog about this wonderful piece.

It's goodbye again...

When you were a kid, have you ever wish that your parents will never leave you? I did. Every night when I go to sleep, I pray that they will be with me forever. 

I could still remember when I was just a kid, there was one day,  I was jostled awake by a nightmare. In there, I dreamed that my mum has passed away. I jumped out of bed and ran to the kitchen, tears in my eyes.

I would expect to see the usual scene of her standing over the stove and preparing breakfast like any other day. But on this day, she wasn't there. I panicked. I cried. Where is everyone? Where is mum? For that moment, I feel so alone in this world. And for that first time, I was totally helpless. 

Then I heard the familiar sound of the front gate opening. I raced into the living room. 

And there she was, standing in the doorway. And she bought breakfast for me. It was a comforting sight. I wiped away my tears and banished that frightening thought into the depths of my imaginary black hole.

"I was that young and naive."

The "5 minutes" Gunpla Expo

"5 MINUTES"

OK maybe I exaggerated a bit but that was how I felt after my trip from Singapore Gunpla Expo at Bugis Plus. So I took 5 minutes to do a complete tour of the whole expo? Why? Firstly,I find most of the contents a tad too repetitive. Except for some of the new upcoming and event exclusive products, there is really nothing much to shout about. 

I remember during Gunpla Expo in 2012, there were many interesting stuff like a huge display done by Hobby Art Gallery, a showcase of custom Gunplas done by celebrities etc. This time round, it is a little wee bit underwhelming. Well, at least they still have the Gundam Image Girls... (Sorry no photos of the girls)

Zoids Group Build 2014

To be frank, I was afraid the response for this year's Zoids group build would be bad considering the lack of activity on the GB page. But the lads didn't disappoint me after all. I still manage to get 11 entries. And to my pleasant surprise, the quality is much better than last year's entries. A marked improvement for those who joined.

Project Jesta Deepstriker (abandoned)

This will probably go down as one of my most notable abandoned projects. This Jesta project was initially meant for the Poisonmonkeys Jesta Group. But I pushed it to the Mid Year Gundam Model Kit Contest in June instead. Unfortunately, I could not meet the deadline as I totally messed up my schedule (which is typical of me). 

Well, rather than crying over spilled milk, I thought I can share some of my wips and also my thought process with you guys. 

The concept is nothing new of course. I was inspired and impressed by Eday's Project GWEN, that I decide to do one myself, amid lesser details. There is no way I can replicate the details or techniques Eday displayed, so I had to stay true to my style.

Lego's My Own Creation (MOC) organized by Brick's World

This post is NOT probably what you guys are expecting. But recently I got interested in Lego and a friend of mine Ivan Ho, introduced me into the world of Lego customizing. I always have the impression that Lego is just about bricks and there is nothing much you can do about them unlike Gunpla or Sci Fi. Of course, I was proved to be very very wrong. And it was not long before I find my newfound respect for these "MOC" builders.

Well, Lego Bricks'World, a store with several branches here, organized their first ever MOC competition (if I am not wrong). And I just had to go down to see what our local lads can conjure out of these simplistic looking bricks.

And here we go! 

Firstly, I was surprised. There are a lot of things you can do with Lego! From modular builds using existing Lego building products, you can create your own city/town scenes. Or robot themes where you create your robots from imagination. I even saw  Marvel and  DC inspiring Lego builds! Those are my favorites. So basically, the sky is the limit. Gundam Model Kit Contest 2014

The Mid Year competition is here again! Oh, Bandai had renamed it Gundam Model Kit Contest 2014. After skipping one year, they are finally back. And to my pleasant surprise, the turn out was fantastic. I'm seeing a lot more entries compared to the precious events. Obviously Gundam Build Fighters has revived or shall I say rejuvenated this competition. Lots of young blood, a few old farts. And lots of great entries. Here are some of  them...

Japan Trip June 2014

So after three years, I'm back in Tokyo. You can say every modeler dreams of going to where it all began.  For Gunpla that is. This time, I wanted to see the legendary RX-78 at Divercity Odaiba which I miss the last trip. And, also to replenish my supplies and look for new tools. 

But most importantly, I get enjoy this trip with my family and close friends. You know, these trip are hard to come by. So I tend to treasure the memories that comes with it.

Mother's day came and gone. That night, I kept holding on to the photo. I ask myself, "how long?" How long do I have to carry this burden? The burden of losing someone dear. I been keeping myself busy to starve off these moments, making them few and far in between.

RX-77-2 Guncannon (Custom built by ?)

I was surfing the web when I came across this exquisite piece on Gunjap . A Seravee/Guncannon conversion.  This is not your typical heavily modified or detailed up kit. Everything is done up to be just nice. Not too much details and lines but just nice. Paint job is smooth although more decals would be great IMO. But overall, I really like this work. A pity I cannot trace who the creator is...

Sazabi OOB project

I have been working on the PG Strike for the past few weeks but finally hit a wall. I'm stuck on the Shoulder armors of the Sword Strike. Can't seem to get the right details on it. Since the add on is a High Grade version, a lot of work need to be done to "upgrade" it to Perfect Grade design.

Poisonmonkeys Jesta Group Build 2014

So Waylander and Toymaker have finally decide to organize a Group Build. And we named it "Poisonmonkeys Jesta Group Build".

The first question that comes to your mind is probably, "Why Jesta?" And I say, "Why not?" We all know Jestas are no frills, simple but effective units on the battlefield. But they are still, cannon fodders. 

So, what if I give you the opportunity to transform the humble Jesta into a hero suit? Or turn it into the Antagonist, like Tallgeese, will you take it? 

Basically, we want participants to go crazy for this group build. We want souped-up units. We want radical concepts. We want outrageous builds. So how is one going to approach this? Simple, think out of the box. Throw away the original concepts and perceptions of the Jesta and revolutionize it. That's the plan. 

So yesterday was the meet. And was I disappointed? I got to be kidding if  I say yes. Because, it's by far the most successful and exciting Group Build we organized. The lads were fantastic, lending their full support in the form of fantastic builds. Well, we get to that later...

And so we organized a Jesta Build Group because we love this fellow. One of the most impressive cannon fodder around! LOL.. And knowing Waylander, his Jesta will be out of the world. And it is.

Beargguy III [San]

My wife has been asking me to build her a Bearguy ever since the first one was released. I have been putting it off citing reasons like "competitions around the corner", "Group Builds" etc. Well, last Christmas, I finally decided to give her something I made. Rather than buying something off the shelf. 

However, I did not get down to finishing it before Christmas. Was feeling a bit bad about myself. So I stayed up the whole night just to finish it. Mission accomplished for me!
