This hobby.... is it for you?

This is an interesting article. I don't really trust online researches these days but having a hobby does make one happier. And I'm not just referring to Gunpla. It could be anything you like to do. It just has to be something you enjoy doing and derive satisfaction from it. You don't even have to be good at it as long as you spend quality time.

Coming back to this hobby, yeah it's a lot of fun. I have been doing the same thing for over a decade now and I have never felt bored once. To me, picking up that pair of nippers was perhaps one of the best decisions I made in my life. It has been wonderful trip and I am still raring to go everyday.

Over the years, I made a lot of friends from different countries. Language was a barrier but Gunpla brings all of us together regardless of our backgrounds and cultures. Some eventually become my buddies.

But like any thing we do, there is always a flip side that we have to deal with. Why? Because we are still dealing with people after all. Online, we encounter all sorts of people. But the type I despise most are trolls. They do nothing but create trouble. They seek to disrupt your momentum and waste your time. They are not in this for the hobby, they just want to stir shit (to put it simply).

Best thing you can do, walk away. And work on Gunpla. Devote your time, effort and creative energies on making something awesome. Serve the community by inspiring and enriching them with your work, ethics and energy. My contribution may be insignificant. But if everyone chips in and do their part, you will be surprised how fast the community will grow and flourish.
NO. I am not in this for the likes, fame, glory or whatever you think it is. I'm in this simply because I enjoy what I am doing. I want people to enjoy this hobby just like me.
So ask yourself again, what are you doing with Gunpla today?

Battle Of The Toys 2016

One of the perks of being a modeler is being able to visit exhibitions, competitions and numerous events related to Gunpal and toys. And this is one of them. As Hobby Art gang was invited to showcase their range of E7 Model Paint at the event, I asked to tag along for the show.

Dreaming the impossible dream

"I dare to dream."

This is by far my most ambitious project.
Since Hobby Art Gallery (HAG) will be having her long awaited Tetsujin competition in 2017,  I thought this will be a good opportunity to show everyone the prowess of HAG's resident modeler!  Me!
So I gave myself this ridiculous challenge.
Six months...
Six months to remodel and recreate the Deepstriker in my vision.  Six months to create a maintenance city (1m by 1m) as its base.
And six months started a month ago! Lol.... Well, I guess there is no harm in attempting the unachievable. Hell, I'm not going down without a fight!
Preliminary concepts:-
1. To recreate the Deepstriker into an huge armored unit
2. Design and create new armaments.
3. Two support units will be attached to the main Striker. Zeta Plus or Delta Plus
4. Brainstorming... Brainstorming...
The clock is ticking....  I'm going to sleep early tonight to replenish my energy.  The impending storm , the anticipated excitement, the unrelenting pursuit for that elusive ultimate build.
I live just for that.

The art of scribing lines and making notches

Before I start, a disclaimer of sorts. I just want to stress that I am no expert in scribing and detailing. But I do have a certain level of proficiency that is good enough for me to get by. The tools and methods I mentioned below are derived from practice and experience I accumulated over the years. So it might not work for others.

When I started out in 2002-2004, scribing panel lines was unheard of. The first person who mentioned it to me was my Mentor, Leon Ku. He was doing it and encouraged me to give it a try as well. It was an interesting technique to me back then. Little did I know, our Japanese counterparts were already light years ahead of us in this department.

One of my first works where I attempted scribing, A mustard colored EX-S.

Graze Asura

This is my latest work I named as Asura Graze. This build is actually part of a group build involving several modelers from various countries. It's called the Clash of the Titans Group Build. It's probably a first of its kind GB and hopefully it won't be the last one.

GBWC Singapore 2016 - My views.

GBWC is early for Singaporeans this year. And it caught many off-guard. Although it was announced that it will happen in June since January this year, many folks are just not used to GBWC this part of the year. It will need some getting used to. We are like one of the earliest countries to kick off this competition. And this shows in the pathetic turn-out this round. A miserly 60 plus entries across all categories. I can't remember a worse showing than this in all my years here. It was that underwhelming.

Well, I will jump straight to the entries since there's nothing interesting there and I can't be bothered with sales and limited items.
