MSN-04 Sazabi Ver.Ka - First Look

First of foremost, I want to wish all readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

And for me, Christmas came early this year. As most of you may know by now, I'm a big fan of the Sazabi. I remember using the old Master Grade version of it for my first few modification/kitbashes, Raven and Lonewolf. Both looked damn crappy right now, LOL. Well, you can imagine I was over the moon when Bandai first announced Sazabi Version Ka. Hey! I waited 13 long years for it!

Space Pod-Crab 03 by Keiko

The moment I see this, I know I have to buy it and in bulk too. Why? Because I'm a fan of maintenance bases and pods like these are hard to come by irregardless of their scales. So the moment it was up for sale, I grabbed a couple of boxes and went straight home to assemble it.

Metal Build Gundam Exia Repair

I have been pondering whether to get one of these Metal Builds for the longest time. The main reason being why would I get one if I can just buy a Master Grade and paint it? And you can get a Perfect Grade Gundam with that kind of pricing.

Well, I decided to take the plunge today and boy, was I in for a surprise....

GP01 [Open Hatch Concept] Perfect Grade

It has been some time since I showcase a fellow modeler's work. Well, the latest work by our Thai counterpart, nuNUnu certainly caught my attention. It was entered in Thailand GBWC 2013 and to my astonishment, was not among the winners. Seriously, this is not even worth a mention!? There are thousand and one questions in my head and I have no answers for them, a different colour scheme perhaps? A more detail maintenance base maybe? To tell you the truth, you can just slip in an acrylic base and I swear this entry is still a top 3 contender. I think Waylander's blogpost sums everything up for me. Sheez...

GBWC (Tale of Two Countries)

I have always been interested in what my neighbours are doing for GBWC. Since geographically, they are the closet to us and we have many things in common. And not to mention that I'm half a Malaysian since my mum was from there.

Not contented with just pictures online, a bunch of modeling buddies and me will make yearly trips to Malaysia to see the entries live. Nothing beats seeing the masterpieces in person!

It's all in the displays...

Have you ever wondered about why you like going to a model shop even if you have nothing really to buy? Whether it's HAG, HAW or somewhere in JapanHongkongMalaysiaPhilippines, whatever. Whether you realise it or not, one big reason is probably the display. Think about it. It has always been about the display, from the day you fell in love with the hobby.

My say...

So GBWC Singapore stop has just ended. This year, many big hitters did not enter the arena but nevertheless, there were several good entries. Let me just go straight to the two hot favorites and eventual winners, Shinigami and Aesalon. Both are conversions from the Sinanju Stein and Sinanju respectively. And both are real eye-openers.

GBWC Singapore 2013

Gunpla Builders World Cup 2013 is here again. This year, this competition is held in conjunction with Gunpla Expo. So you can expect it to be a large scale event.

This time, no photos on what's the event has to offer. Let's zoom in on the girls and GBWC entries instead, LOL...

You can get coverage of this event here:-

Gundam Epyon by Leon Ku

It has been quite some time since I blogged about someone's work. Today, I had the opportunity to view this one up close and used my camera phone to take close shots of it. This was one of the entries at GBWC Singapore 2011 and to me, the most underrated work. I do not understand why this entry did not made it to the top 3. I pinned it down to the inadequate lighting and unimpressive display area offered by the organizers. Questioning the Judges' decisions would deemed improper (whatever). Anyway, it's over and I think this work deserved a mention here. Don't think my photography will ever do it justice. But it would be a waste if I don't give it the limelight it so deserves ( I'm considering a proper reshoot in the future).

Valvrave III - First Look

Since my last review on Valvrave I, I have watch 10 episodes of the anime. And to be frank, I lose interest at episode 5. I continued watching because of Valvrave III. At least the mechas are interesting!

WHERE IS OUR GBWC?

Seriously, this is becoming a joke.

I have local lads coming to me every few days asking when is our GBWC. I have looked into my crystal ball several times but saw nothing. It's all smoke. All I can say is based on experience, year end competitions traditionally happen in late October or early November. So I assume Bandai will make announcements this month or the next, giving us a head start of about three months (and I sincerely hope they do it).

Then I saw Waylander's post. And I remembered. We do not have a Mid Year Competition this year. Nothing to rev up our engines and gain momentum for GBWC. Nothing at all. All smoke again. Probably mid year challenges are just not worth their while?

And so my counterparts in Malaysia had one recently. And I heard some Singaporean guy announced that GBWC is happening for them early October. That shook me. Why? because TRADITIONALLY, Malaysia GBWC happens right after Singapore GBWC. So if they are having one in early October....  Well, your guess is as good as mine.

And, like what Waylander said, it doesn't take a business guru to know that the modeling community keeps things going. Perhaps, concentrating on young children and getting their attention will keep the cash registers ringing. Parents these days have so much buying power. So it is all logical (or so they say). "New blood VS Old Farts". Old farts like us can be overlooked (or no need to give a damn sounds more like it). Well, just a gentle reminder, we, the old farts are parents as well.

To me, it's not a matter of "if" but "when" GBWC will happen. So based on my experience (again), I'm looking at October - November period. Any earlier will be ridiculous considering that no announcement has been made till now (and it's already mid-June).

AND If it doesn't, I don't have to look into the crystal ball to know how the community will react.

GMG Sazabi (modeled by Johmny)

I seldom feature works of other modelers here. But damn! this is one really sweet Sazabi!  And how I wish it was me who did this. This is what Formania Sazabi should look like with lower torso/legs. Apart from all the amazing details and the perfect paint job, what really makes this kit stands out is the colour scheme.

You never see it coming. And bang! One white demon smacked in your face. I admire the modeler's courage and his skills at pulling it off. And to think that this is a full resin kit, I gotta take my hat off just for this fellow....

Zoids Group Build 2013

I have to admit. I am stunned by the strong turnout for the Zoids Group Build 2013 at Hobby Art @ Work. To be very frank, I expected many to fall out as the deadline approaches. But I was given a pleasant surprise by everyone! More than 15 Zoids were submitted! And the quality was pretty impressive as well.

HMM Iron King (Warmachine Version)

The craze started in November last year. While seeking to take a break from Gunpla, I chanced upon Kel Vinci's Berserk Fuhrer and the Zoids "bug" caught me instantly. Then I started hunting for these Highend Master Models or in short "HMM" Zoids. And before long, my collection grew to the point I had to clear out some of my Gundam stashes.

Always on my mind...

"Always".

After five long years, I have never stop thinking of you every single day. It's like a daily ritual. Something I have to do at the beginning of the day. It gives me strength and hope to move forward. On some days, the silly side of me will wake up half expecting you to be in the kitchen preparing breakfast. If memories are tangible, I would hang on to them for dear life.

Because time hurts memories. Images become blur, voices faint. The distance between us widens. I just want to tell you I'm still hanging on to the memories of us as long as my brain still functions.

I also want to tell you everybody is doing well and so you don't have to worry too much. Just enjoy your little "vacation" until it's my time to join you. For, you still have a son to take care of...

Happy Mother's  Day "MA"

Valrave I - First Look

So I watched the Valvrave episode 1. And find the plot utterly familiar to some robot anime ;) So it's nothing out of the ordinary for me (you should watch "Attack On Titan"). Anyway I thought Valvrave looks too overpowering in the debut episode. I guess it had to be. Well, I managed to get hold of this product and decided to give a quick review of it.

2013 Gunplanatic Group Build at Hobby Art @ Work

Another busy day but fulfilling day for me! I hereby declared Gunplanatics 2013 Mecha Buildgroup a success! These young lads from Gunplanatics had organised probably their first official GB and I must say the response is pretty good. While participants posted their entries online, we managed to arrange for their works to be displayed a Hobby Art @ Work for today.

LBX Achilles (Hyper Function) - First Look

Just a GENTLE REMINDER. Buy this LBX.

They call it a hyper function LBX. Well, it's basically a MG-ized LBX. The main difference between this and the previous version is the what Bandai called "Core Skeleton". It has good articulation and that translates to better poses.

HMM Iron Kong - First Look

This will be my entry for the first Zoids Group Build this May, HMM Iron Kong. I consider this the Perfect Grade of Zoids because of its sheer size and number of parts. It would be a challenge for me since this is going to be my first painted HMM kit.

Funnies...

Ok, it's 12.30am and I'm still assembling the Iron Kong. Thought I can have some fun since I assemble the head. To be frank, I really like what I see here (minus the Tallgeese body). I have never feel this kinda excitement for a long time.

Looks like I am going to have lots of fun building this!

MG Sinanju Stein - First Look

After 2 Sinanjus and one commission in line, you can see why I wasn't really enthusiastic about Stein. Firstly, what's with "Stein"? Looked up wikipedia and the best I can made sense of is it means "stone" or "rock". Sinanju Rock, Sinanju Stone!? Flintstone? Oh well, never mind...

Zoids Group Build 2013

Something for the lads here. I noticed there is a spike in the interest for Zoids recently and after seeing all the hoots at local forums and even my FB, I think it's about time to start working on your backlog (that applies to me and Waylander as well).

So, we're going to have a Zoids Group Build. Rules you say? Simple, Just Zoids, Zoids, Zoids and more Zoids, you can throw in extra elements like other mechas whatever, sky's the limit as long as the main kit is Zoids. Any Zoids kit is welcomed. Deadline is 4 May 2013 and I have sought the permission of  the bosses at Hobby Art @ Work to use their place for the meet. So come 4 May, bring your completed kit to share and learn! Who knows? I may throw in some prizes as well! ;)

If you are keen and can make yourself available on  4 MAy 2013, indicate your interest here:

See you guys soon!

Who deserves MG treatment?

I was reading Waylander's post, "8 Mobile Suits that should get the MG treatment?" just now and it occurred to me that I should have my own list as well!

Firstly, I agree with Waylander's views on the upcoming releases. "limited edition" clear parts, web limited exclusives, reissues in OVA, extra shield here and an extra bozooka there. Not really exciting times for modelers like me. I reserve my views on Sinanju Stein until I get hold of it. And beyond that, the only thing that actually caught my attention is MG Jesta. Surprise me Bandai...

Well, on to my list of mobile suits that deserves MG treatment...

MG Tallgeese - First Look

I started Gunpla because of Gundum Wing anime. And besides Wing Gundam, the other mecha I like is Tailgeese, especially the first version. Why, simply because it's awesome and can match up to the Wing easily. I like the design too. A mecha with that "old school" look.

Change of "teeth" for Rex

I finally got down to work on the Rex. My plans are to beef up its arsenal a bit. The first to go is probably the original Railgun. I replaced it with this blaster I bought from Japan last year, an add-on weapon for Armored Core mechas. Mixed and matched with a few Kotobukiya MSG parts to get what I wanted.

CHOICES...

"GET A LIFE" Yeah, you heard it. I'm beginning to ponder have I devoted too much time and energy for this hobby? And after 10 years, I am beginning to wonder, "what did I achieve?" Well, I wasn't really aiming for anything when I started out,  it's purely enjoyment and it keeps me sane in this crazy city life.

Metal Gear Rex 1/100 - First Look

So, what is Metal Gear Rex? Well, Rex is one of the many interesting machines in the game world of Metal Gear Solid (MGS). It's like a walking tank laden with all types of weapons. In other words, it is cool shit. I have been following the game for ages and still very much in love with the series. I even started collecting all the MGS figures from Play Arts.
