Project Jesta Deepstriker (abandoned)

This will probably go down as one of my most notable abandoned projects. This Jesta project was initially meant for the Poisonmonkeys Jesta Group. But I pushed it to the Mid Year Gundam Model Kit Contest in June instead. Unfortunately, I could not meet the deadline as I totally messed up my schedule (which is typical of me). 

Well, rather than crying over spilled milk, I thought I can share some of my wips and also my thought process with you guys. 

The concept is nothing new of course. I was inspired and impressed by Eday's Project GWEN, that I decide to do one myself, amid lesser details. There is no way I can replicate the details or techniques Eday displayed, so I had to stay true to my style.

RX-77-2 Guncannon (Custom built by ?)

I was surfing the web when I came across this exquisite piece on Gunjap . A Seravee/Guncannon conversion.  This is not your typical heavily modified or detailed up kit. Everything is done up to be just nice. Not too much details and lines but just nice. Paint job is smooth although more decals would be great IMO. But overall, I really like this work. A pity I cannot trace who the creator is...

So GBWC Singapore stop has just ended. This year, many big hitters did not enter the arena but nevertheless, there were several good entries. Let me just go straight to the two hot favorites and eventual winners, Shinigami and Aesalon. Both are conversions from the Sinanju Stein and Sinanju respectively. And both are real eye-openers.

Gundams on horses (By Leon Ku)

Many years back, I remember seeing a nice BAKUC entry from Thailand of a Knight riding a horse. The knight was coverted from a MG Gyan. I think that this combination of Gundam and its ride is a interesting idea and no doubt impressive if one can pull it off. And we do have a "representative" in Singapore too. This one was presented in BAKUC 2008 under the expert category made by Leon, Musha Gundam and a magnificient horse. 

This one shocked me for a long time... And I am seldom "shocked".

The horse (if everyone is curious) is converted from the Super Robot Wars Aussenseiter (horse mode). He did some research on the history of Feudal Japan. The colour and modifications were made with that era in mind.

The bow and arrows were scratchbuilt and designs were handpainted.

How he actually balanced the whole thing on a simple but impressive looking base is still a mystery to me.

Those beads you see were taken from some oriental displays.

The tail of the horse were from the wings of the PG Wing Gundam. 

And as if one is not enough, he went on to produce another variation recently. This time "Guan Yu" on his red horse. I like the colour of the horse, very striking and meanacing. REally don't know what to say, why not we just look at the pictures and soak it in....

 

I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone commission him to do a whole army of it....

GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam (Conversion) by Leon Ku

I could still clearly remember the first time I saw this during BAKUC in 2006. I was awestruck. It has never crossed my mind that someone actually built this. It simply blew the competition away (yes! I am one of them). This was a first at that time, and it was made in Singapore! We beat the Japanese to it! Gotta credit Leon for this...

At the scale 1/144, this piece stands about 50 cm with it rear cannons and a 1/60 Impulse Gundam was used as the base kit for the conversion. Involving heavy modifications and scratch-building, this kit took him an estimated three months to complete. Most people could not tell that this was converted from the Impulse.

I remember he mentioned 50 boxes of Epoxy Putty were used. He basically ordered from the supplier the whole carton! It didn't come cheap either.

The toughest part (in my opinion) would be the backpack since it has curved surfaces and symmetrically challenging. Can this transform to Attack Mode? The answer is "yes". But it is not worth srcatching the paint work.

It was a pity that Leon did not take much WIP shots. Otherwise, it would be very good reference to most modellers.
