Metal Build Gundam Exia Repair

I have been pondering whether to get one of these Metal Builds for the longest time. The main reason being why would I get one if I can just buy a Master Grade and paint it? And you can get a Perfect Grade Gundam with that kind of pricing.

Well, I decided to take the plunge today and boy, was I in for a surprise....

WHERE IS OUR GBWC?

Seriously, this is becoming a joke.

I have local lads coming to me every few days asking when is our GBWC. I have looked into my crystal ball several times but saw nothing. It's all smoke. All I can say is based on experience, year end competitions traditionally happen in late October or early November. So I assume Bandai will make announcements this month or the next, giving us a head start of about three months (and I sincerely hope they do it).

Then I saw Waylander's post. And I remembered. We do not have a Mid Year Competition this year. Nothing to rev up our engines and gain momentum for GBWC. Nothing at all. All smoke again. Probably mid year challenges are just not worth their while?

And so my counterparts in Malaysia had one recently. And I heard some Singaporean guy announced that GBWC is happening for them early October. That shook me. Why? because TRADITIONALLY, Malaysia GBWC happens right after Singapore GBWC. So if they are having one in early October....  Well, your guess is as good as mine.

And, like what Waylander said, it doesn't take a business guru to know that the modeling community keeps things going. Perhaps, concentrating on young children and getting their attention will keep the cash registers ringing. Parents these days have so much buying power. So it is all logical (or so they say). "New blood VS Old Farts". Old farts like us can be overlooked (or no need to give a damn sounds more like it). Well, just a gentle reminder, we, the old farts are parents as well.

To me, it's not a matter of "if" but "when" GBWC will happen. So based on my experience (again), I'm looking at October - November period. Any earlier will be ridiculous considering that no announcement has been made till now (and it's already mid-June).

AND If it doesn't, I don't have to look into the crystal ball to know how the community will react.

LBX Achilles (Hyper Function) - First Look

Just a GENTLE REMINDER. Buy this LBX.

They call it a hyper function LBX. Well, it's basically a MG-ized LBX. The main difference between this and the previous version is the what Bandai called "Core Skeleton". It has good articulation and that translates to better poses.

LBX Elysion

I am beginning to like these Little Battlers aka  LBX. Well, initially I find them pretty kiddish looking and they somehow reminds me of Pokemon and Digimon. But I had the chance to build one several months ago and realized there kits are pretty fun to build. And since you can interchange the limbs and torsos, there is room for lots of variations.

Here is my second LBX todate, LBX Elysion...

Gundam Converge SP01

I have been seeing this on the web many times and kinda curious about them. So despite the price (30SGD), I bought a set. The box is relatively small and when I opened it, I must admit I was a bit disappointed. I expected it to be taller though. And like Gashapon, some of the parts are bend. To make it presentable, one needs to do the panel lines.

Well, this will probably be my last set unless I want to fix and paint them properly.

MG Gundam Age-1 Normal - First Look

Admit it, most of you out there are probably not Gundam Age fans. It could be the anime which IMO tailored for the younger generation rather than us the oldies. But to be frank, I enjoyed this series. My son loves it as well. He bought a couple of 1/144s from the series too.

When Bandai announced the release of Master Grade Gundam Age, I thought the response was at best, lukewarm. But somehow, I feel that this new MG could be something altogether. Hence, to generate interest, I organized a Group Build for Gundam Age.

I managed to get one when it was released here and boy, this is a surprise package! In terms of engineering, the shoulder joints were remodeled to give better articulation. THe proportion just right and construction is relatively straightforward. There is no seam lines at all!

Gundam Master Grade Model Kit Challenge 2011

There you have it. Everyone has been asking about it ever since the Sangokuden Challenge 2011 for juniors was announced. For those who are obviously too old for the Sangokuden Challenge, prepare yourself for the Master Grade challenge instead! Since all Master Grades  including those MG Figures are allowed, there are a lot of choices out there.

Rules are pretty much the same as previous competitions. However, base limit is now 30cm by 30cm, do take note of that. Photo submission will be on 29 July 2011. All photos to be send to Sheng Tai Toys Pte Ltd. Alternatively, you can submit your photos online to sttgundam@gmail.com. Do limit your submission to 5MB.

I don't know why you are still reading this. Everyone start your engines and I will see you guys soon :).

A new craze

Caught a bad bug recently. The "Kamen Rider (KR)" bug to be exact. It started off with pain and aches in all my joints, that was right after I finished the MG Son Gokou for Leon Chen. And the symptoms got progressively worse after I saw Leon Ku's Mask Rider Accel

So I went to Hobby Art Clinic (HAG) and the friendly doctor prescribed me with two types of medicine, antibiotic - MR "Cyclone Joker" and muscle relaxant - MR "Accel". Both to be taken three hours before bedtime everyday and to stop when all symptoms are relieved.

Told me if there is no improvement after five days, I need to see him again and he will prescribe stronger MR medication.

I LEFT THE CLINIC A HAPPY MAN....

Omegamon, Digimon Reboot - Review

Just a quick review on this one. I picked it up from HAG. I have always been a fan of the Digimon since young. And when Bandai announced this new line, I was thrilled. I thought if they are releasing this, it should be in safe hands. I am not disappointed at all....

There are not many parts like a Master Grade. Assembly is relatively easy. Stickers are provided as well.

Coming soon...

Gundam Fiesta 2010

I took leave on Friday and made my way down to Compass Point for the Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2010. This is like an expo similar to those held in Japan and Hong Kong alas at a much small scale. I ain't complaining. At least we have one annually. At one glance, this year's layout is pretty similar to last year. However, I find the displays are more interesting now...
